Mario Apparently Does Feel Pain…Kind of

By Todd BlackApril 22, 2024
Five Mario Crossovers We Want to See After the Rabbids

Just when you think the gaming world can’t throw you any other curve balls…it sends something your way that you don’t expect. Mario has been on people’s minds a lot recently, especially because of a recent successful animated film and best-selling 2D platformer. Oh, and an RPG remake that’s coming next month! But apparently, people decided to ask rather philosophical things about the esteemed gaming icon…including whether he feels pain or not.

Somehow, this got to Nintendo‘s ears, and a longtime worker on the Mario franchise had this to say about it:

“It may be that Mario does feel pain,” said Takashi Tezuka in a chat with The Verge. “If the player feels that Mario is feeling pain, that’s a better experience, rather than talking about whether Mario actually does feel pain. For us, if Mario hits an enemy and the person playing goes ‘ow!’ that’s ideal.”

So…if you think he does, he does! It’s not likely to hurt YOU as you play the game either way. What a gaming world we live in, right?
