KENSHI YONEZU Debuts New Song & Music Video

By Josh PiedraApril 12, 2024

J-pop’s global superstar and Gold-certified artist KENSHI YONEZU has released his newest single, “SAYONARA, MATA ISUKA! – SAYONARA,” as well as the track’s official music video.

KENSHI YONEZU

Available everywhere now, the song was written by Yonezu as the theme song of NHK’s Asadora (Morning Drama Series) Tora ni Tsubasa. The track’s vivid cover art was created by Yonezu himself and features a winged tiger, evoking the strength of the series’ main character blazing her trail despite hardships. Also making its premiere this week is the track’s official music video, which was directed by Tomokazu Yamada, who also shot Yonezu’s newest artist image for the song. Featuring Yonezu in pigtails and a shoulder-padded power suit, the video is set at a diner and unwinds in a whirlwind of events preceded by a reverse playback of the video, affirming the artist’s dedication to being himself since birth – watch here.

Today’s release is the latest in a prolific rise for Yonezu, the J-pop hitmaker continuing to reach international audiences with musical contributions to some of the past year’s biggest titles. His most recent release, “Spinning Globe,” features as the official theme song to Studio Ghibli’s Oscar-winning film The Boy and the Heron by director Hayao Miyazaki, while his Chainsaw Man theme song “KICK BACK” reached a historic Gold certification by the RIAA, the first certification of its kind for a Japanese language song.
