Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons, the upcoming beat ‘em up that features some old faces such as Billy and Jimmy Lee, and some new ones, now has a release date. According to Modus and developer Secret Base, the game will be released on July 27, 2023, and will be available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, and PC (Steam).
Now, I know what you’re saying. Yes, this isn’t the Double Dragon you’ve grown up with, nor is it the follow-up to Double Dragon Neon, and yes, Marian is rocking a gun and rocket launcher, but give it a try. This time around, the classic beat ‘em up has been reimagined with pixelated graphics, incorporates roguelite elements, and looks fun. It’s a chance to play a game I grew up with, and it seems like something I’ll enjoy.
And in case you forgot, Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons will feature local couch coop gameplay, with online gameplay planned and will be patched in at a later date this year.
