Events! Events! And more Events! That’s the theme of Bofuri Vol. 4!
The event to collect coins has ended so Maple and Sally end up choosing their skills. Maple goes with Psychokinesis so when Syrup giganticizes, she can use it on him and cause him to fly. Since his resistance to it is 0%, it costs no mana to use. Maple even uses it to cause poison rain to fall from above, killing anything below, making her even more overpowered.
Chrome reports this to the forums and even the devs are ashamed that they overlooked this. Once the event ends, Maple spends some time in the real world. At school, she ends up using cover a few times as though she were still in the game. This is all part of sleep deprivation as spending 7 days in game is equal to 2 hours of real-world time. This throws her completely off balance forcing her to take three days off from the game to rest up.
When she comes back, there’s another even where you kill glow bugs for coins. Get the right one and you can exchange it for a guild house! This leads to Maple forming her guild called Maple Tree. Her, Sally, Kasumi, Kanade, Chrome, and Iz all join the guild! The guild formed just in time for, yet, another event! This time, they have a week to kill cows and gain more coins. New World Online sure has no variety when it comes to their events…
With the event over, we see a pair of girls looking for a group. I think we all know where this is headed.
Chrome got some nice development here. He was feeling inadequate and wanted to go out searching for a way to get better. Maple lends him Syrup and they go and tackle an undead dungeon together. Apparently, Chrome isn’t a good player because you have to die 1,000 times as a pre-requisite to get in. The armor he ended up getting from it turned him into an unkillable god… so I guess he fits in with the rest of Maple’s guild now!
Iz spent a little bit of time with Maple as well. The game introduced a new skill called Shear… and it does exactly what you think it does… it shears wool from sheep. Many people were farming it so Iz decided to go on ahead and chase down some sheep that escaped. While she was gone, Maple tried something and the results were hilarious… Let’s just say that it solved their wool farming problem. The only drawback is that Maple can’t do anything when she uses this new ability… well… almost nothing. Those poor adventurers!
I think they went a little overkill with the event thing but it was kind of realistic in the sense that most games these days copy/paste events and then just change it up just enough to pass them off as new. Every event was just search and kill stuff for coins that you exchange for a reward. I like variety in my games and even if the targets and locations were different, doing the same thing every event is just kind of boring.
Maple’s new skill as a result of the major event is broken. It allows her, at the cost of her HP, to share her defense with her party members. Now everyone in her group can be super indestructible! The only thing is, an opportunity has not yet presented itself to where it could be used so I would assume we are meant to keep this piece of information in the back of our minds for a future plot or something.
I’m glad they brought all of the random secondary characters together as we can spend more time with them. It looks like we are getting two new ones in the next volume. We know one of them is named Mia but that’s about it. I just hope that this doesn’t cause our main case to hyperinflate. Keeping casts small is a good way to go for a story like this. We’ll have to see how this plays out, though!
