Mortal Shell gets a roguelike mode, heads to Steam in August

By Keith MitchellJuly 28, 2021
Mortal Shell The Virtuous Cycle

Not too long along, the developer of Mortal Shell teased some new content in the form of a new shell and a weapon. Well, it turns out that it’s much more than that, as the new DLC, Mortal Shell The Virtuous Shell, is actually a new roguelike game mode. The Virtuous Shell releases on August 18th, 2021, and is priced at $7.99 across for all platforms.

The Virtuous Shell changes everything you know about Mortal Shell by introducing the new shell, which is actually an older shell — that of your teacher, Hadern. Remember that first obstacle that served to test what you learned before you started your journey in Mortal Shell? Yeah, that guy, Hadern. Now you get to play as the teacher. Not only that but you’ll be armed with a transforming weapon called Axatana. If it sounds like a mixture of a katana and axe, you’d be right. Axatana will serve as a meaty axe that can carve its way through foes while transforming into dual katanas for speedy attacks.

Remember when I said, forget everything you know about Mortal Shell in this DLC? Well, that’s because this new roguelike mode changes up the game. Everything is being recycled, and what was where it was during your original run through Mortal Shell won’t apply with The Virtuous Cycle.

Lastly, Mortal Shell and the upcoming DLC will be heading to Steam. While the PC was already available for the PC, it was only playable via the Epic Game Store. That all changes on August 18th, 2021, and you can wishlist the game now. The base game price on Steam hasn’t been announced as of yet, while the DLC is priced at $7.99.

I’ve run through the game multiple times on PC and Xbox Series X, and I’m looking forward to checking out the roguelike mode and seeing what exactly has changed. Mortal Shell The Virtuous Cycle will be available for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.
