Elden Ring Gets A Gameplay Trailer And A Release Date

Yes, oh Elden Ring. We finally received a gameplay trailer, and it was worth the wait. But wait, it gets better has Bandai Namco and From Software shocked the world with a release date, followed up with a delay. Originally Elden Ring was scheduled for a January 22, 2022 release date, but has since been pushed back to February 25, 2022.

That’s less than a year away! This was announced during the 2021 Summer Game Fest, which took place earlier today. This is the first time we’ve heard about the game since it was originally revealed way back in 2019.

Elden Ring is a joint project between From Software and George R. R. Martin (A Song of Ice and Fire, Game of Thrones) and has been on the mind of the entire Soulsborne community since it was announced. We’ve looked at every bit of info we could find on the game, and maybe some of us even made up some stuff about the game. Needless to say, the hype is real, and this announcement made our days.

If I’m being completely honest, this does look a lot like the Dark Souls games we’ve played and enjoyed. Yes, I said it, it looks like Dark Souls 2/3, and while that’s not bad, I wonder if this is due to the cross-gen aspect since it is releasing on all consoles – outside of the Switch. Despite all that, what I’ve seen in the trailer has me ready to possibly die over all over again. But this time, with a narrative story – that really excites me.

Check out the gameplay trailer.

There are a few things to take away from this trailer. First, there’s a creature of sorts that we’ll be able to summon and it looks like we’ll have one to carry us to various locations. Combat from this mount also looks like this is going to be possible.  This is a huge departure from the Dark Souls/Bloodborne/Sekiro games. We’ll see the return of massive and agile bosses that want to make short work of us as well. Then there’s talk about extinguishing a flame; the complete opposite of the Dark Souls games.

Did anyone see the Dark Souls reference? The one where this new Elden Ring character tosses up a fellow wearing the Faraam Armor Set, Fluted Helm, and Crest Shield and impales them? I thought that was a nice reference to the Dark Souls games.

I really wish it was already January 2022, because that wait is going to cause me to go hollow. But what about the rest of my fellow Soulsborne fiends? Did this reveal excite you? Are you still looking forward to more information? Let us know in the comments!

Elden Ring releases on January 21, 2022 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC (Steam). Damn, I can’t wait!
