Wizards of the Coast announces Aus/NZ Store Challenger Series

By Karl SmartMay 18, 2021

Wizards of the Coast (WotC) today announced the Store Challenger Series, a succession of competitive Magic: The Gathering (MTG) events that will be held in Wizards Play Network (WPN) game stores exclusively in the APAC region. Over 170 stores across ANZ are participating, with the first of the Series running from 21 June to 18 July 2021.

Each participating WPN store will receive 32 unique foil promo cards to use as prizes for the Series, which intends to welcome MTG players back in-store to play after a period of infrequent play opportunities as a result of COVID-related restrictions over the past year. The cards are a thematic extension of the Year of the Ox promo cards that were released earlier this year.

There will be four Series this year, each with one unique foil promo card associated, including two with new art versions:

  • Moraug, Fury of Akoum
  • Ox of Agonas
  • Angrath, the Flame-Chained
  • Tahngarth, First Mate

Event structure:

  • Participating stores must host at least four qualifier events throughout the event window.
  • The top two players from each qualifier are invited to the Store Championship.
  • Stores will run one Store Championship after the final qualifier in each Series.

Find your participating store here. So get down to your local card shop and get registered for this series ASAP.
