Cyberpunk 2077 Remains a Priority for CD Projekt Red

CD Projekt Red’s chief executive Adam Kicinski stated that the studio has no intention of moving on from Cyberpunk 2077 and is intent on fixing it according to a report from Reuters.

Cyberpunk 2077, to put it mildly, has had a very troubled cycle from the day it was launched back in December. The game was plagued with a myriad of technical issues and in some cases being completely unplayable. This prompted many storefronts, such as the PlayStation Store and Steam, to allow full refunds. As of now, the game has still not available on the PlayStation Store after it had been removed by Sony following the rocky release.

I don’t see an option to shelve Cyberpunk 2077. We are convinced that we can bring the game to such a state that we can be proud of it and therefore successfully sell it for years to come.

Kicinski has faith that the team over at CD Projekt Red can salvage the game and intend to support it for many years to come. They clearly want it to have the same longevity that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt provided them within the years prior.

CD Projekt Red has undoubtedly had their hands full between the launch of Cyberpunk 2077 being kind of a mess, a major cyberattack back in February, and continuous bad press regarding their development practices.

The team there has a difficult task ahead of them when it comes to salvaging Cyberpunk but it would not be the first time a game was brought back from the brink of oblivion. Final Fantasy XIV and No Man’s Sky both had very rocky launches and have made comebacks following their respective overhauls. It’s not impossible to save the game, but they surely have a very long hurdle to leap in order to make it what they want and what fans want. A question that will continue to be present in the meantime is that will people still care by then?
