Wonder Woman 3 Confirmed, Patty Jenkins Will Return To Direct

By Todd BlackDecember 27, 2020
Wonder Woman 3

Wonder Woman 1984 has been delayed many times, but over Christmas, it was released in both theaters (where people could go to them safely) and on HBO Max. There have been some divisive thoughts and feelings about the movie, but overall the fanbase seems to like it (though not as much as the original). However, despite that, Variety is reporting that Wonder Woman 3 is happening, and both Gal Gadot and Patty Jenkins will return to finish the story of Diana Prince.

“As fans around the world continue to embrace Diana Prince, driving the strong opening weekend performance of ‘Wonder Woman 1984,’ we are excited to be able to continue her story with our real life Wonder Women — Gal and Patty — who will return to conclude the long-planned theatrical trilogy,” said Warner Bros. chief Toby Emmerich.

More than likely, this third film was always going to happen. Before the pandemic-era we’re in now this was going to be one of, if not the, biggest movie of the year (no doubt fighting with Marvel’s Black Widow for the top spot) and likely would’ve grossed close to or over 1 billion dollars. But obviously, that couldn’t happen. But, with the response of the film on HBO Max, and the decent box office money it made in the theaters it could show in (a record in the present times monetarily), Warner Bros seemed more than happy to greenlight Wonder Woman 3.

“‘Wonder Woman 1984’ broke records and exceeded our expectations across all of our key viewing and subscriber metrics in its first 24 hours on the service, and the interest and momentum we’re seeing indicates this will likely continue well beyond the weekend,” said Andy Forssell, head of WarnerMedia’s direct-to-consumer business. “During these very difficult times, it was nice to give families the option of enjoying this uplifting film at home, where theater viewing wasn’t an option.”

Now, as for what the third film will be about…that’s unclear. Most people feel, and both Gadot and Jenkins have teased, that the film will be set in the modern times post-BVS and Justice League. Who will show up and what the plot will be about is known only to Jenkins and DC Comics legend Geoff Johns who reportedly have written it out in full already.

Thankfully for us all, by the time this is filmed and put out there to the world theaters will (we pray) be back to full power. Which was something that Jenkins noted she didn’t like about Wonder Woman 1984 because she wanted people to see this in theaters. But with Wonder Woman 3 happening she’ll no doubt put everything she has into this film to make sure that WHEN (we pray) people see this in theaters they’ll be blown away one more time.

It also should be noted that Patty Jenkins is working on the Rogue Squadron movie for the Star Wars universe so that might delay when filming starts for the final Wonder Woman film.

In the meantime, be sure to read our review of Wonder Woman 1984, where we praised the film for its story, characters, beauty, and heartfelt messages about life, love, and truth.
