Cold Symmetry’s Action-RPG Mortal Shell arrives on PS4/Xbox One/PC on August 18th

By Keith MitchellAugust 5, 2020

Well, this is a pleasant surprise! Cold Symmetry, the developers of the upcoming Action RPG Mortal Shell, have announced that the dark Action-RPG will be released this August 18th, 2020. This is sooner than expected, but I’ll take it! The title will be available on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC (Epic Game Store), priced at $29.99.

I recently had a chance to check out the closed beta, that went open beta due to the popularity of the game. You should check out my thoughts and impressions of the game here.  For those who aren’t sold on the game, but are fans of Dark Souls, I can say without a doubt that Mortal Shell will scratch that itch that’s been bugging you for months. For me, I’ve loved what I played.

What makes Mortal Shell so different is how Cold Symmetry added a unique spin on the Action-RPG. Instead of having gamers upgrading their character, we instead venture out into the world and find deceased bodies of adventures, or more specifically, Mortal Shells. Gamers will then take over those bodies, learn more about the dearly departed, and use their abilities to venture into the dark fantasy world. It may sound weird on paper, but its implementation works out well.

“Launching Mortal Shell worldwide is a dream come true,” said Cold Symmetry’s four co-founders – Andrew McLennan-Murray, Anton Gonzalez, Dmitry Parkin, and Vitaly Bulgarov – in a joint statement. “Our commitment to our fans is to create a soulslike game that is authentic, uncompromising and unrelenting. We were humbled by the popularity of the beta and we closely studied the feedback we received to create something that we are incredibly proud of.”

It’s hard to believe that this game was made up of such a small development team. Then again, those who did work on this game were passionate fans of Fromsoftware’s Dark Souls series, and from what I’ve read and seen, they know their stuff. I’m fully looking forward to diving back into the world of Mortal Shell.

Mortal Shell arrives on PS4, Xbox One, and PC via the Epic Game Store on August 18th, 2020!
