PAX Online to replace PAX West and PAX Australia 2020

Over the past few months, we’ve seen many gaming events and conventions either get canceled, postponed, or have transitioned to an online event. While many were hoping that we’d be out of this COVID-19 madness by now, the sad realization is that we’ll be stuck with this pandemic for some time. Realizing this, Reed POP and Penny Arcade have announced that both upcoming events, PAX West and PAX Aus have been canceled, but will be released by a new online event – PAX Online.

This new event will feature several major changes, as it will be a free event, there are no badges to purchase. Which makes sense since we won’t be on-site. Since there won’t be any booths to hit up, the company is looking to instead provide games and demos that we’ll be able to download and experience. Merch will also still be around since you can already purchase PAX merch from thier online website. Pretty much everything that PAX a must-attend event (well, almost everything) will be present with PAX Online.

It just might be a bit easier for some to get a panel. S if you’ve always wanted to have your panel but never had the chance. PAX Online just might be the break you needed. And yes, they are accepting panel requests, and you can apply here.

More details on what to expect regarding PAX Online can be found below.

“In our previous post, we explained that while we still had hoped to bring you PAX West this year, protecting the safety and health of our community is our highest priority. The more we worked on a solution, the more it became clear that if we really wanted to welcome everybody home, we’d have to remove the physical barriers entirely, and simply take PAX Online.

Going digital means a lot more than just a change in venue though, and by transcending the physical, in fact, we’re able to do more PAX than ever before!

PAX Online is the result of the convention-organizing supergroup made up of the people responsible for PAX West, PAX Australia, as well as our new friends at EGX to create our new PAX Online and deliver a steady 24/7 stream of content, events, discussions, and gameplay.

Oh, and did we say 24/7? We actually meant 24/9, because we’re going to be running this virtual shindig for nine straight days, from September 12th through the 20th.

We’re sure you have questions, and you should! We waited this long to announce so that we could offer these pre-emptive answers to how, exactly, we’re going to pull this off”

Yeah, it’s a bummer that this is yet one more gaming event that’s been forced to change, but at least it hasn’t been canceled. I applaud Reed Pop and Penny Arcade for understanding the situation we’re in and for doing everything in their power to keep us safe.
