Insomniac Games confirms that Spider-Man Miles Morales is a standalone title

By Keith MitchellJune 12, 2020

Ok, this is getting ridiculous, but at least we know what’s actually going on. Originally during the PlayStation 5 reveal event, Spider-Man: Miles Morales was revealed and we first thought it might be a standalone game. Then it was pointed out by Sony of Europe that this would be an expansion to a remaster of sorts. Of which didn’t fit right with us or fans of the series.

Now we’re being told by Insomniac Games themselves that this is, in fact, a standalone title.

Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales is the next adventure in the Marvel's Spider-Man universe. We will reveal more about this standalone game at a future date. #MilesMoralesPS5 pic.twitter.com/GOTAvNhUaF

There’s way too much confusion for something that should completely obvious. But for the sake of things, we can safely label this a standalone and the original story is null and void. That is unless someone states that the game is something completely different down the road.

Original story below… not that it matters anymore.

During the PlayStation 5 reveal event, we saw the first look at Spider-Man: Miles Morales for the PlayStation 5, starring Miles Morales. We screamed, we cheered and we wanted more information about it.

At first, we thought this might have been a standalone game, similar to Uncharted: Lost Legacy. However, after checking around, it would seem that Sony is trying to pull the wool over our eyes. According to The Telegraph, who spoke with Sony of Europe about the Spider-Man game for the PlayStation 5. Which turns out that this isn’t a standalone game. It also isn’t an expansion for the PlayStation  4 game either.

So what is it?

Well, it turns out it is an expansion. Yes, I know  I said it wasn’t a PlayStation 4 expansion, but I didn’t say it wasn’t a PlayStation 5 expansion. How could this be? For now, PlayStation isn’t talking but it sounds like to me that Insomniac is working on a Spider-Man remaster for the PS5.

A remaster that I’m assuming we’d have to pay for, even if we own the game for the PS4. Plus extra for Miles Morales expansion. However, the biggest slap in the face would be if this expansion isn’t made available for the PlayStation 4 owners. You know, the people that went out and purchased Spider-Man for the PS4 and had been asked for an expansion featuring Miles Morales.

Lastly, I feel this is a slap in the face to Miles Morales fans. Yes, Miles is Spider-Man, but he’s not the same Spider-Man as Peter Parker. They’re like night and day, and Miles has a much different story; his parents are still alive, one a former agent and, his mother is a nurse, not to mention a completely different environment to boot. A new story featuring Miles should have been told, instead of an expansion.

I don’t know about you, but that seems suspect to me. This also takes away my excitement over the Spider-Man: Miles Morales for the PlayStation 5. I know it’s not fair to assume anything of this without giving PlayStation the benefit of the doubt. Yet at the same time, when you run a Livestream and state that everything that was shown is exclusive to the PlayStation 5 (which some games weren’t), what am I supposed to think?

I hope PlayStation says something about this, the sooner the better.
