Serious Sam 4 blasts onto PC and Google Stadia this August 2020

By Keith MitchellMay 20, 2020

After Devolver Digital’s tease about something “Serious” happening today, I’m sure many of you figured they were teasing the long-awaited return of Serious Sam. But for the sake of this announcement, let’s act surprised, OK? Serious Sam is back and his new game, Serious Sam 4 will be released this August 2020 for PC and Google Stadia.

OK, I lied, I’m really excited about this. I’m not even acting, and I’ve been waiting for Sam to make his return.

What’s interesting about this announcement is that this title isn’t a sequel, but a prequel instead. While we don’t have much info on this, it can be assumed that this is re-telling of the origins of Sam and his zany adventures.

Co-op fans will be happy to know that Serious Sam 4 will also feature a four-player online co-op mode that will let you play through the entire campaign. That sounds like it should be fun. Of course, it wouldn’t be a Serious Sam game without shoving hundreds of thousands of enemies down your throat, so don’t expect anything less here. Thanks to what Croteam is calling the “Legion System”, our screens are going to be packed with enemies to blow around. The challenges will also be massive, as the developers have stated that this game is going to give gamers a run for their money and that they weren’t happy with how Serious Sam 3 took off. I don’t know about you, but I love a challenging shooter.

Serious Sam 4’s Steam page is currently live, and you can either wishlist the game or pre-purchase the game now for $39.99. Pre-purchasing the game will also give you access to a digital soundtrack, a digital artbook and the Tommy Gun in-game skin.

Update: According to the publisher, the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions will not be released until sometime early 2021. So if you want to play before then, you’ll have to do so via the PC or Google Stadia.

More information surrounding Serious Sam 4 can be found below.

Croteam and Devolver Digital have announced that the high-powered prequel Serious Sam 4 will unleash both barrels of chaos on Steam and Google Stadia when it launches August 2020. Serious Sam fans can circle-strafe over to serioussam.com and watch new feature highlight videos, pre-order Serious Sam 4, and snatch up previous Serious Sam games at up to 90% off.

Humanity is under siege as the full force of Mental’s hordes spreads across the world, ravaging what remains of a broken and beaten civilization. The last remaining resistance to the invasion is the Earth Defense Force led by Sam “Serious” Stone and his heavily-armed squad of misfit commandos.

HORDES OF INVADERS

The iconic cast of alien invaders returns with some new reinforcements! Fight your way through unbelievable numbers of Mental’s minions including the iconic Headless Kamikaze, Beheaded Rocketeer, Kleer, Scrapjack, Werebull, and Khnum! Square off against brand new enemies and towering monsters like the frantic Processed, repulsive Belcher, the hard-hitting Zealot, and more.

EXPLOSIVE ARSENAL

Armed with a slew of devastating weapons, pick your tool for any situation. Lay waste to Mental’s Horde using the powerful double-barreled shotgun, the punishing minigun, the powerful chainsaw launcher, a brand new auto shotgun, and the iconic cannon. Upgrade your toys, and enjoy the violent beauty of the lock-on rocket launcher, and the mighty laser beam of death.

COOPERATIVE MAYHEM

Smash through the action-packed campaign with friends in 4-player online co-op mode! Tackle exciting primary missions and thrilling side quests in modified difficulties for an extra challenge.

LEGION SYSTEM

Serious Sam 4 unleashes some of the biggest moments in the series’ history with the new Legion System and battlefields teeming with thousands of enemies!
