Samurai Shodown running on the Nintendo Switch is looking good

By Keith MitchellDecember 4, 2019
Samurai Shodown

Footage of Samurai Shodown running on the Switch was captured by IGN Korea and uploaded to YouTube. And it doesn’t look half bad… no, I take that back. It looks damned good.

Previously released for the PS4 and Xbox One, the Switch version was delayed. Likely to put some more time into the game and judging from the video, that time was well spent. Looks like SNK has a handle with making the Unreal Engine 4 shine on the Switch.

While there does appear to be some slight visual differences, the game still looks similar to the PS4 and Xbox One versions. That’s not all, as the gameplay looks smooth and while there hasn’t been any confirmation it looks like the game is also running at 60 frames per second.

The Switch version will also include a game mode where two players will be able to play on a single Joy-Con, as well as the conventional docked and handheld mode. All of the currently DLC and Season Pass that was previously released will also be available for the Switch. The Season Pass includes four additional characters (Rimururu, Basara, Kazuki Kazama, and Wan-Fu). As a bonus, the character Shizumaru Hisame will be free upon the release of the game.

Samurai Shodown releases on the Nintendo Switch on December 12th, 2019, in Japan. There’s still no ETA on when we can expect to see the Switch version released in North America.

Switch owners, are you looking to pick up this most excellent fighter? Let us know in the comments.
