Details from Crunchyroll’s Panel at AnimeNYC

By Josh PiedraNovember 17, 2019
Crunchyroll

Crunchyroll was in attendance at this year’s AnimeNYC and their panel had several notable announcements such as the date of the 2020 Anime Awards, a crossover between anime mascots, new jewelry collection that people are sure to love, a new behind-the-scenes documentary, four English-dub announcements, and more!

Let’s dig into everything Crunchyroll announced!

Anime Awards

Crunchyroll announced that the next installment of the Anime Awards will take place on February 15, 2020 from Crunchyroll HQ in San Francisco, California. While a date was announced, voting and additional information will be coming early next year. Crunchyroll asked that you stay tuned to see which of your favorite series are up for nomination!

Worlds Collide

Crunchyroll shared a video that depicted the first-ever meeting between Crunchyroll’s Hime mascot and virtual YouTuber Kizuna Ai!

Crunchyroll described the video as follows:

Virtual YouTuber Kizuna AI daydreams about what her next video should be when Crunchyroll-Hime visits her to play charades! Watch the full video for a ton of anime easter eggs – including when Crunchyroll-Hime gets so excited to act out “Naruto,” she accidentally multiples herself and doesn’t know how to reverse it!

You can check out the video for yourself below:

The Rising of the Shield Hero Jewelry

Crunchyroll also announced a collaboration with What’s Your Passion Jewelry to launch a jewelry collection featuring fan-favorite characters Naofumi, Filo, and Raphtalia and designs from The Rising of the Shield Hero. Fans can expect a wide array of jewelry including pendants, necklaces, earrings, ear cuffs and more in sterling silver and 14kt gold when the collection launches early next year.

Behind-the-Scenes: Food Wars: Shokugeki no Soma

After the excitement from the behind-the-scenes documentary of Dr. STONE, Crunchyroll is releasing another robust behind-the-scenes documentary with the anime creators of  Food Wars, which will premiere in late November.

New English-Dubs Coming Your Way

Crunchyroll announced four brand-new English dubs that are coming soon to their streaming platform. The shows announced were:

Ascendance of a Bookworm

Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun

Magical Sempai

If It’s for My Daughter, I’d Even Defeat a Demon Lord

Crunchyroll also revealed a huge slate of previews for upcoming series, including a comment from the cast of Crunchyroll co-production “Woodpecker Detective Office,” a sneak peek at the new original animation DVD / OAD from “That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime,” which will premiere on Crunchyroll on December 4, and brand new previews of “Somali and the Forest Spirit,” a Crunchyroll co-production premiering winter 2020.

Crunchyroll describes the OAD as follows:

Mikami Satoru, an ordinary businessman, was stabbed on the street and died, but found himself reincarnated in a parallel world… in the body of a slime! Thus he began his new life as a slime named Rimuru, flung into a new world teeming with creatures of many different races, and made the decision to start a new country where all races could enjoy life together.

In the midst of his everyday life, Rimuru suddenly realizes that there’s nothing to do for recreation in Tempest. He suggests sumo wrestling as a way for everyone to have fun together, and his friends are immediately on board with the idea. Thus begins Tempest’s first sumo tournament, in which everyone competes enthusiastically in hopes of winning the grand prize! Passionate contests break out not only among Benimaru and the men, but also among women like Shuna and Shion, and even Rimuru ends up joining in! This is a special episode in which all the citizens of Tempest come together for some fun.
