Pokemon GO Has Been Downloaded By A Billion People

By Todd BlackAugust 1, 2019
Pokemon Go

When Pokemon GO was announced in early 2016, people weren’t really sure what to make of it. Then, as it got more and more detailed, people were very excited about it. When it launched in the middle of 2016, a global phenomenon had been born. And now, though the peaks of players isn’t what it used to be, it’s still making lots of money and being played by many. So much so that the game has officially gotten 1 billion downloads in its lifetime.

To be clear, this is not saying that there are a billion people playing Pokemon Go, but rather, that it’s been downloaded by a billion people since 2016. And more than likely it’s actually a bit less than that because no doubt many people uninstalled it after the initial craze died down and then they went back to it after a while. But still, a billion downloads is a billion downloads and that’s very impressive.

Just as impressive is that Niantic continues to keep the game fresh with new Pokemon, new playing options, new events, and more. Just recently, Team Rocket was officially put into the game, and more is likely to come.

The game since 2016 has grossed over $2.65 billion dollars. And that’s going to keep growing in this new year that it finds itself in.
