SDCC 2019: Marvel Casts Mahershala Ali As The Next ‘Blade’

By Keith MitchellJuly 20, 2019
Blade played by Wesley Snipes

Marvel’s first GOOD hero movie that wasn’t part of the MCU is getting another go. Yes friends, I’m talking about Blade!

Announced today during the end of Marvel panel during San Diego Comic-Con 2019, Kevin Feige and Mahershala Ali took to the stage announced the upcoming reboot. Previously played by Wesly Snipes in three movies, Mahershala Al will pick up the mantle for the new go-round. Blade is not only an important character in the Marvel universe. But I consider the Blade movie one of the main reasons the groundwork for the MCU films even happened.

Of course, this isn’t Mahershala Ali’s first Marvel rodeo either. Fans will remember that he played Mike Colter’s opposite in the Netflix Luke Cage series, Cottonmouth. He was great in that, even though we didn’t see him featured in any fight scenes. I guess we’ll finally see that happening when the rebooted Blade movie gets underway.

There wasn’t any mention on who would be directing the film, however, I have an idea. Jon Watts, the director of Spider-Man: Homecoming, had expressed interest in a Blade movie a while back. Maybe this will happen.

I wonder how Wesley Snipes feels about the recent news. Especially since he had been asking Marvel to revisit Blade for quite some time.

There wasn’t any other information released outside of that, but honestly, this was enough. Blade is coming back and Mahershala Ali is the new Daywalker.
