First Look At The New ‘Lupin The First’ CG Movie

I had heard rumors of a new Lupin III feature being worked during 2018. However, after the passing of Katou Kazuhiko, affectionally known as Monkey Punch, I thought that was the end of it.

Thankfully, it wasn’t and today TOHO has released a trailer and providing us with a first look at a computer-animated Lupin flick, Lupin The First. I know, I know, CG and anime series don’t always hash out. But seriously, give this trailer a look. You may come away surprised as I was.

Based on the trailer this new CG Movies looks faithful to the anime. According to the movie website, the film is directed and written by Takashi Yamazaki (Space Battleship Yamato, Stand by Me Doraemon). No word on what studio/s is handling the animation but I’d loved to know who it is.

It doesn’t bad at all, does it? I’d say it looks pretty close to something we’d see from Pixar or Dreamworks.

Lupin The First will be released in theaters in Japan on December 6, 2019. So far there hasn’t been any news an international release. Hopefully, that changes as anime has been making its way into more and more theaters in the West in the past few years. I’d love to see this at a local theater.
