Ruth Bader Ginsburg Will Cameo in ‘The Lego Movie 2,’ Kind Of

DC Superheroes. Star Wars pilots. A Supreme Court Justice. What do these three things have in common? They’re all Lego mini-figures. Or rather they will be in the upcoming sequel to The Lego Movie. Hollywood Reporter recently announced that Ruth Bader Ginsburg will appear in Lego form in The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part.

In an interview with USA Today, director Mike Mitchell explained his thinking. “Who’s the last person you would think to see in a Lego film as a minifig? Ruth Bader Ginsburg!” He elaborated that the Supreme Court Justice will appear as a member of the creative little sister’s universe in the upcoming film.

Although this sounds like a surprising cameo, RBG herself will not voice her Lego counterpart. That being said, she did give her approval to the Lego team to allow her likeness to be used. Which at least lets us know that one of the justice’s many decisions did in fact pertain to whether a Lego version of herself should exist. This also begs the questions of whether moviegoers will be able to get Lego Ruth Bader Ginsburg to round out their very own collections. Rest of the Supreme Court (presumably) sold separately.

The real Ruth Bader Ginsburg recently underwent surgery, and had to miss court arguments for the first time in 25 years while she recuperated. Although there’s no word yet on when she will return to the Supreme Court, the Lego version of herself will appear on February 8th when The Lego Movie 2 arrives in theaters.
