‘MST3K’ Season 12 Blasts onto Netflix this Thanksgiving

By Sara Roncero-MenendezSeptember 26, 2018

Fans of bad movies and snarky commentary, never fear! Mystery Science Theater 3000 is here! Or, at least it will be this Thanksgiving Day. That’s right, the show’s 12th season will premiere this November for our horror and delight.

A.V. Club broke the news yesterday that Netflix would be keeping up the tradition of posting new episodes on Thanksgiving, a gift for all of those who like to settle in for a fun marathon of bad movies after some good eating. Jonah Ray, Felicia Day, Patton Oswalt, Baron Vaughn and Hampton Yount are all set to return for this next season, so no worries about any casting changes or surprises.

“Thirty years ago on Thanksgiving Day 1988 is when we premiered Mystery Science Theater 3000 in the Minneapolis market,” creator, original host, and executive producer Joel Hodgson told A.V. Club. “We were competing with 60 Minutes for the same time slot, and I think history has shown which is the better show.”

Felicia Day seems particularly excited for this new season, which supposedly has even schlockier schlock than last year: “The movies are deliciously bad and I get to torture my cast mates in new and innovative ways. I love my job!”

And in case that’s not enough MST3K for you, fear not! Hodgson and Ray are going on a 30th anniversary live tour, where the two will crack jokes at The Brain and Deathstalker. You can find where they’re headed and get tickets on their website.

Mystery Science Theater 3000 Season 12 premieres on Netflix on November 22, 2018.

A reporter by trade, Sara is a lover of horror, sci-fi, and all things pop culture. From indies to classics to even the strangest schlock, all movies and TV shows are fair game. She believes Batman is the most fascinating superhero, and that Silent Hill is one of the best horror franchises ever made (as long as you don't count the movies). Fun Fact: The only movie Sara will not rewatch is The Room -- once was more than enough.
