“Mordenkainen’s Tome of Foes” Sneak Peek Podcasts Coming Soon

By Ara AlexanderMay 3, 2018

Over the past year, Dungeons & Dragons players have seen a steady stream of new content from Wizards of the Coast, between Unearthed Arcana playtest material, Xanathar’s Guide to Everything, and Xanathar’s Lost Notes to Everything Else, for those who just couldn’t get enough. Now, it’s the gamemaster’s turn in the spotlight, as D&D announces their upcoming book, Mordenkainen’s Tome of Foes.

Mordenkainen is well known to many a wizard and bard, thanks to the spells that bear his name, such as “Mordenkainen’s Faithful Hound.” In lore, he’s a scholar and wizard from a world called “Greyhawk,” a land often hailed as the standard for D&D games. In Mordenkainen’s Tome of Foes, it’s said that he traveled far and wide to amass information about the creatures, wonderful and terrible, that inhabit that world. According to the Wizards of the Coast website, we can hope to see “new demons and devils, several varieties of elves and duergar, and a vast array of other creatures from throughout the planes of existence.”

News of the Tome of Foes isn’t exactly new in D&D circles, as many fans have been waiting with bated breath. However, it might come as news to hear that the team plans to release a number of podcasts ahead of time, introducing players to the material before the book finally drops.

This program is called “Podcast of Foes,” and it’s organized by Victoria Rogers, the dungeon master for an actual-play podcast called “the Broadswords.” The podcasts are scheduled to run on the Dungeon Delve podcast feed for two weeks, starting May 7th and running until May 20th. Two episodes will be posted each workday, each starring a different actual-play group. On the weekends, fans are promised a twitch stream including more monsters and lore.

Mordenkainen’s Tome of Foes is currently available for preorder from book stores and local gamestores, or from D&D Beyond. It will be available everywhere May 29th, but players can pick up a limited-edition copy in game stores starting May 18th.

The Dungeon Delve podcast can be found on iTunes, Google Play, or wherever podcasts are found. Tune in May 7th to hear from Venture Maidens and Sneak Attack!, and check the schedule on Wizards of the Coast’s site for the names of upcoming groups!
