‘Fresh Off the Boat’ Creator to Make Directorial Debut on Netflix

By Clinton Bowman-ChristieMarch 25, 2018

The creator of the ABC sitcom Fresh Off the Boat, Nahnatchka Khan, has signed on with Netflix to make her feature directorial debut. The movie that she will be directing is currently untitled and will see her team up with Fresh Off the Boat star Randall Park and writer Ali Wong, both of which will be stars in the new show.

Wong and Park both scripted the new project with Michael Golamco, as well as joining Good Universe’s Nathan Kahane and Erin Westerman as show producers.

The untitled Netflix project script tells the story of childhood sweethearts who haven’t spoken in 15 years after a falling out. They reconnect when Sasha (Wong), who is a celebrity chef opening a restaurant in San Francisco, runs into Marcus (Park), a struggling musician still living at home working for his dad. They still have feelings for each other, but question if they can adapt to each other’s world.

The movie is scheduled to begin filming in Vancouver and San Francisco in May.
