MARCH COMES IN LIKE A LION Gets New Opening Song in January

By LizLizDecember 5, 2017

It was announced earlier this week that rock group Union Square Garden will perform the next theme song or the popular Shogi anime, March Comes In Like a Lion. The song, named “Haru ga Kite Bokura”, will be released as a CD single for consumer purchase on March 14th in Japan. Union Square Garden is no stranger to anime, having previously provided songs to other shows since their formation in 2004. You may know their sound from Tiger & Bunny or Blood Blockade Battlefront. Union Square Garden has released 6 albums and tours throughout Japan.

If you aren’t familiar with it, March Comes In Like a Lion a heartfelt series focusing on Rei, a professional Shogi player who is struggling to complete high school on time. After the death of his parents, he was taken in by a family friend and Shogi player. Taking an interest in Shogi from his adoptive father, Rei excels and surpasses his step-siblings, who feel as if he has stolen their family. Feeling like an invader, Rei moves out to pursue Shogi professional so he can support himself in the hopes that his adopted family will become whole again without his intrusion on the family dynamic. This  series  can be enjoyed by anyone – you don’t need to have an understanding of Shogi to sympathize with Rei’s hardships.

March Comes In Like a Lion is on its second season, which you can watch on Crunchyroll.
