The New York Yankees Are Getting Into Esports

New York Yankees and Echo Fox agreement

And they’re teaming up with Echo Fox

If you thought that esports was just a fad or was something that isn’t being taken seriously. Think again. Now it looks like the New York Yankees are partnering up with another esports organization, Echo Fox. Yes, the very same organization that was set up by former LA Laker, Rick Fox. Currently, Echo Fox has players in multiple games, including Street Fighter V, Super Smash Bros., Tekken 7, League of Legends and more.

According to Forbes, the Yankees will enter into an investment partnership with Vision Esports, the largest shareholder of Echo Fox. How much investment, however, was not detailed.

Game plan: accelerate the growth and increase the global brand awareness of the three companies. Echo Fox, a leading professional esports organization founded by three-time NBA Champion Rick Fox; Twin Galaxies, a one-of-a-kind League Operator considered an authority on performance validation, statistics and skill indexes; and Vision Entertainment, a studio that creates esports-specific content for scripted and non-scripted platforms.

As far as esports goes, this is huge news. This is yet another major sports team that has gotten involved with esports, similar to what the Philidelphia 76ers did when they aligned with Team Dignitas and Apex.

To celebrate the announcement, Rick Fox, took to Twitter and posted a single image. Pretty sure this sums it up for everyone.

I have to say that I’m happy to see this sort of thing happening. Ever since more and more companies started getting involved with Esports, it’s shown that video games can be more than just for entertainment. And while some don’t see this as a viable sport, deals and happenings like this go to show that more and more people see things differently.

Congrats to Rick, Echo Fox, and the New York Yankees!
