New Trailer for The Last of Us Part II Shown at PGW

By VeronicaOctober 30, 2017

As a welcome surprise for Sony’s Paris Games Week press conference, a new trailer for The Last of Us Part II was featured. As mentioned in our PGW predictions article, I was sure this would be a closer at PlayStation Experience. But it’s great to be wrong, because the lengthy trailer featured new characters and possible story elements. While it’s still too early for gameplay, what we see here is captivating, not to mention brutal.

No familiar faces here. In fact, it wasn’t clear that this was a trailer for The Last of Us Part II until the clicker reveal at the end. This poses far more questions about the sequel than it answers. Who are these people? The woman tells her men to “clip” her captive’s “wings”. That may allude to an affiliation with the Fireflies, the militia group from the first game. And when is this scene taking place? Is it before or after Joel and Ellie’s story? There is still a lot we don’t know about Ellie’s parents and her immunity to the virus – could one of these women be her mother?

Of course, this is all speculation. I am shocked that we got to see The Last of Us Part II at today’s press conference and that Sony didn’t save it for PSX. While the game is likely a long way away from release, it was great to see Part II make an appearance.
