Sonic Mania On PC Gets Delayed, Releases On August 29th

By Keith MitchellAugust 11, 2017

Sega just held a special Sonic Mania stream that ended a few minutes ago, and sadly it bared a bit of bad news. Well, for the PC gamers (like me), as Sonic Mania is getting delayed by two weeks. The current PC build isn’t up to the team’s expectations and as such the game will be delayed for two weeks, and releasing on August 29th.

Update: If you pre-ordered the CE and already have a copy of Sonic the Hedgehog 1, Sega will give you a giftable copy that you can give out to someone.

Still, delaying a game because you want it to be the best that it can isn’t all that bad. This doesn’t affect thePS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch versions and those will still be released on August 15th. As a good will gesture, if you pre-ordered the PC version, you’ll score a free copy of Sonic the Hedgehog 1 that will be available on August 15th. If you pre-ordered the Sonic Mania Collector’s Edition, that will still be delivered, you just won’t be able to redeem the code until the 29th.

I really hope this doesn’t have an impact on the sales of the PC version. A delay can be a mighty deterrent from some, and if they happen to change their mind and decide not to double dip. Well, there goes one PC sale, and that cycle could repeat and ultimately could hurt the Sonic Mania PC sales. I hope this doesn’t happen, but the chance is there now.

So there you have it, PC gamers. it does hurt a bit, especially with the announcement coming literally days from the original release date. I’m already thinking about picking up my copy now on either the PS4 or perhaps even the Switch version. I suppose it’ll depend on the mood I’m in at the time.

I bet you this is all Doctor Eggman’s fault!
