Sega’s Early Look At Sonic Mania’s Opening Animation

Previously Sega announced that they were going to show off the opening animation for Sonic Mania, the day before it was to launch. However, they hit a snag as several locations broke the street date and copies of Sonic Mania were suddenly being streamed on YouTube and Twitch. So what’s Sega to do? Well, other than getting those streams shut down, they pushed out an early look at the opening.

And I’m impressed. I’ve always been a fan of the Sonic CD opening animation, so I was excited when Sega announced that Sonic Mania was getting the same treatment. Now that I’ve been able to watch the animation a few times, while I’ve enjoyed it, it doesn’t seem to have that same magic as the Sonic CD‘s opening did.

That’s not to say it’s bad, not at all. I’ll also admit that I have a hard-on for the “Toot Toot Sonic Warrior” theme as well. Maybe I’ll change my tune when we see the full opening since this is basically Sega’s version of a sneak peak.

Sonic Mania releases on August 15th, 2017, for the PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
