Anime Expo 2017: Kodansha Announces New Manga Licenses

By Josh PiedraJuly 3, 2017
Kodansha

At the 2017 Anime Expo, Kodansha announced several new manga licenses for North American distribution! The following titles were announced:

  • Battle Angel Alita: Mars Chronicle
  • Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card
  • Fairy Tail S

Battle Angel Alita: Mars Chronicle is a prequel series to the original Battle Angel Alita manga. Kodansha plans to begin releasing the prequel starting in February of 2018. The prequel manga has been publishing in Japan since April 2014 and is about the cyborg “mechanical angel” Gally (Alita in English) going to Mars to discover her roots and seek the truth about herself.

The original Battle Angel Alita manga will be released by Kodansha as a 2-in-1 hardcover edition starting this November!

Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card is currently being released in a digital format through Comixology and Amazon’s Kindle services; however, Kodansha announced that they will begin distributing physical copies of the manga starting this November!

The manga takes place after Sakura graduates from Tomoeda Elementary School, in her first year of junior high school. Sakura sees a mysterious dream, and an incident takes place.

Fairy Tail S is a collection of short stories from Hiro Mashima from the Fairy Tail series. The first two volumes of Fairy Tail S are slated for an October release! Hiro Mashima drew the artwork for both volumes of the manga.
