Update! Amiibos and Special Edition Announced! Metroid: Samus Returns Coming To 3DS!

By Todd BlackJune 13, 2017
Metroid: Samus Returns

Just when you thought that Nintendo had nothing else to show, they have announced a brand new game for the 3DS that is coming very soon. During its Nintendo Treehouse….Metroid: Samus Returns was revealed. That’s right, not only are we getting Metroid Prime 4 for Nintendo Switch, but we’re getting a 3DS Metroid title as well!

This game is actually a modern remake of Metroid II: Return of Samus for the Game Boy back in 1991. But, like Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia, the game has been remade from the ground up for the Nintendo 3DS. Including redesigns of numerous enemies, as well as new powers and abilities.

In the game, Samus is sent by the Galactic Federation to planet SR3-8 to investigate an incident, and she soon finds familiar enemies in the Metroids…but they are evolving. And the deeper Samus goes into the planet, the more danger there is. As they showed off the game in the Treehouse, it became clear that this is a pure 2D Metroid style game, complete with wide world to explore and backtrack into. Samus will get special abilities and tech, including ones gotten from Metroids themselves.

The game is being developed by MercurySteam, who worked on Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, along with members of the Metroid team themselves.  Also, the game has been confirmed to have Amiibo support, AND, two new Metroid Amiibo’s are being made for this game! A literal Metroid, and Samus in her Metroid II pose!

Still not enough? At the end of their Treehouse demo, the team announced a special edition of Metroid: Samus Returns, which will feature a new cover, and a soundtrack featuring music from EVERY Metroid game so far!

Metroid: Samus Returns arrives on September 15th for Nintendo 3DS!
