Nintendo President Expects The Nintendo Switch To Sell As Well As Wii

By Todd BlackFebruary 2, 2017

I think it’s fair to say that many, MANY, people expect the Nintendo Switch to do well. But just how well? If we’re going off of straight up comparisons, Nintendo definitely wants it to do better than the Wii U’s paltry 14 million (and to be honest, I don’t think it reached that, it’s a little under if I remember correctly…). But what hard number is Nintendo asking for? Well…it may surprise you…

Nikkei is apparently doing an interview with Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima, and snippets of that interview is being leaked out by Dr. Serkan Toto on Twitter, one such tweet said the following:

“More info from the Nikkei interview with Nintendo president Kimishima. He says he expects the Switch to sell about as well as the Wii.”

Tatsumi Kimishima

That’s a bold statement (which Toto also tweeted), and one that could stave off the naysayers who are stating that the Nintendo Switch will be the last console the developer makes. But will they actually do that well. Remember, the Wii was a true phenomenon in that EVERYONE was buying a Wii, but casual and hardcore fans alike. It’s clear the Switch is trying to do that too, but also remember, the Wii sold over the 100 million, could the Nintendo Switch truly come anywhere close to that?

It’s hard to say, a lot of it will depend on Nintendo, the 3rd Party developers, the quality of the games, and the consumers desire to buy. Could it happen? Sure. Will it happen? Well…we’re a month away from launch, guess we’ll see how well it starts soon.
