Jun Maeda in Need of Heart Transplant

By Josh PiedraJuly 28, 2016

Jun Maeda, co-founder of KEY, sent out a tweet earlier today giving us an update on his health condition.  Maeda was hospitalized in February, but later released.  During his follow up examination, it was stated that the best way to move forward would be to undergo a heart transplant to correct his dilated cardiomyopathy. Dilated cardiomyopathy is a condition where the left ventricle of the heart is enlarged and weakened and cannot pump blood efficiently. Maeda stated that if he does not have the procedure, then things may end up looking a bit grim.

Jun Maeda and KEY are best known for their visual novels Air, Kanon, Clannad, Little Busters! and Rewrite, all of which have received anime adaptations with Rewrite currently airing in Japan as of the time of this post. Jun Maeda also teamed up with P.A. Works to create Angel Beats! and Charlotte, two original anime.

While the tweet is in Japanese, an unofficial and loose translation (i.e. Google Chrome) reads as follows:

Examination has been carried out. The final goal is so does not change because a heart transplant, seems not live ‘s my heart. To take money, I was playing the Oboro village positive in vita while thinking also tired Bookshelf ~ Nante to hospitalization for surgery! No stronger than the boss I Ushi-oni and Umaoni! ? I do not win at all …

We here at The Outerhaven send our thoughts and prayers to Jun Maeda and sincerely hope that, not only, can a donor be found, but the operation is a complete and total success.
