Yes, Dead Rising 4 Is a Timed Exclusive for Microsoft

By Keith MitchellJune 17, 2016

Geez, I’m seeing a lot of gamers getting all up in arms due to the fact that Microsoft PAID to have a year of exclusivity for Capcom’s, Dead Rising 4. And when I said paid, I mean that they’re publishing the title directly.  In fact, a lot of those gamers are basically claiming that Microsoft lied about that at the recent E3 2016. However, there was zero mention of that from anyone in the Microsoft camp.

There’s even a fake image floating around that has “Xbox One Exclusive” written on it. That is fake folks, don’t believe that as there are actual images of the art box on places such as Amazon.com and they don’t show that on those art boxes.

What Microsoft is doing is very similar to what they did with Crystal Dynamics’ Rise of the Tomb Raider, which will be arriving on the PlayStation 4 this Shopping holiday of 2016.

What Microsoft did say about the exclusivity is as follows.

“Dead Rising 4′ on Xbox One is developed by Capcom and will be published in partnership with Microsoft. Fans will be able to play ‘Dead Rising 4’ first on Xbox One and Windows 10 PC this December. It will remain a Windows 10 exclusive for the first 90 days and console exclusive on Xbox One for one year. We’ve had a close and longstanding relationship with Capcom including the launch of Dead Rising as an Xbox 360 exclusive and Dead Rising 3 as an Xbox One exclusive. We’re thrilled to partner with Capcom once again to help bring their ambitious vision for Dead Rising 4 to life.”

There you go, all spelled out for you. The Xbox One will have a 1-year exclusive right to Dead Rising 4, while Windows 10 PC’s will have it for 90 days.

However, and this is a big deal here, is that it wasn’t mentioned what happens after that 1-year deal. Will it make it’s way over to the PlayStation 4 or even the Nintendo NX if it’s out by then? Or will it still stay with Microsoft but also mean that it will also get a Steam version instead?

At least during the Rise of Tomb Raider deal, we knew that it was eventually coming over to the PlayStation 4, however with Dead Rising 4, well no one is really telling the entire story. Perhaps we need a real-life Frank West to figure this all out.

The first Dead Rising that released was an exclusive title for the Xbox 360, as was Dead Rising 3 when it was released on the  Xbox One. The only title that didn’t share the same fate was Dead Rising 2, which appeared on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Windows.
