The Artist Known as Prince Passes Away

By Josh PiedraApril 21, 2016

It is with a heavy heart that we report that one of the biggest names in the music industry and, arguably, one of the best performers of all time – The Artist known as Prince, real name Prince Rogers Nelson, has passed away today at age 57.  Prince had to make an emergency landing due to a health issue last week on April 15, but attended a concert the very next day to assure his fans he was okay.  It went on record that Prince was battling a case of the flu for several weeks.  Police were called to Prince’s recording studio/home today where a death was being investigated.

It was first stated by CNN that information would not be released by police about the identity of the body until next of kin were notified, but shortly after, it was officially stated that the music icon had passed away. TMZ also picked up on the story which included a dispatch call after emergency services were contacted.

Prince has left behind an impressive legacy that has moved and shaped the entire music and entertainment industry. Rolling Stone ranked Prince at #27 as one of the 100 greatest artists of all-time. Known for his flamboyant style, Prince combined Rock, R&B, Soul, Funk, Hip Hop, Disco, Psychedelica, Jazz and Pop into his music.  He went through a few identity changes including changing his name into an symbol as well as “The Artist Formerly Known as Prince.” He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004 and has been the recipient of seven Grammy Awards, a Golden Globe and an Academy Award.

Prince’s legacy will forever be embedded in his music and in our hearts. We here at The Outerhaven offer our deepest condolences to the friends, fans and family.
