New Rumor Suggests Nintendo Switch Successor Will Have 10 Million Units Ready For First Fiscal Year

By Todd BlackJanuary 28, 2024
Nintendo Switch

We’ve been talking about the upcoming Nintendo Switch Successor for some time now, especially on the Nintendo Entertainment Podcast. One thing we constantly note on our show is that the rumors and “reports” of what will happen with it KEEP COMING! …and, as you might have guessed, the last few days have been no different. A few days back, a new report said that the Switch successor would have an 8-inch LCD screen for its portable controller, which would be an improvement over what their current console has.

However, in another report on Twitter, one insider claims that the “display shipment data” suggest that the Nintendo Switch Successor is aiming for over 10 million units to be sold within the first fiscal year, and thus, Nintendo intends to make that many, if not more, to account for that:

Display shipment data suggest Nintendo would make 10M+ of next-gen console in initial FY. Unlike PS5 and XSX/S that faced chip shortages at launch, Nintendo's would be much easier to find at stores. And about OLED version, Omdia says not "for this year."https://t.co/7SnKeoZOtU

Given the success the Switch had in its first year, which caused widespread sellouts worldwide, it’s unsurprising that Nintendo would go this route. Hopefully they’ll have the legendary titles to help make these kinds of sales possible. But, as we also note on NEP, until Nintendo verifies this, it’s just a rumor.
