Psychonauts 2 Story Trailer Teases Its Villain and an Even More Surreal Adventure

The long-awaited sequel to Double Fine‘s cult classic platformer Psychonauts got a brand new story trailer today ahead of its August release. Psychonauts 2 is already looking to be another surreal and comedic adventure through the psyches of its various outlandish characters. Couple that with the mystery of something lurking behind the scenes of the heroic Psychonauts then you have a recipe for what looks to be a fun ride. If you’re a fan of the original like many of us are, the story trailer makes it seem that the sequel will give players a healthy dose of why they love this world and then some.

We once again follow Raz, an aspiring Psychonaut trying to make his way among the elites that he has always aspired to be like. Things are never as they seem and it looks like Raz and his motley crew will have to battle the game’s big bad, Maligula. We don’t know what her deal is yet, but she already looks like a force to be reckoned with equipped with a sinister laugh and some kind of water serpents that will surely play into her gimmick as a final boss.

In addition to the looming threat of the game’s antagonist, Psychonauts 2 will also see the inclusion of Raz’s family much to his dismay. They already look like they will be a thorn in Raz’s side as they might seem like they mean well, but he comes off immediately concerned about their presence. In any case, it’s no doubt that they will be a lot of fun to have around if the writing style of Tim Schafer’s team is anything to go by.

Psychonauts 2 drops on August 25th for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows PC. It will also be available via Xbox Game Pass on that same day.
