Xbox and Meta Announce Special Edition Meta Quest 3S Bundle

While you’ve already been able to play Xbox Series X|S games on the Meta Quest 3 and the newly released Meta Quest 3S, Xbox and Meta have taken things a step further with a new special edition headset designed just for Xbox fans.

The Meta Quest 3S: Xbox Edition comes in a slick black and green Xbox-themed design. It includes a matching special edition Xbox controller, reminiscent of the 20th Anniversary controller (though not translucent), 128GB of onboard storage, and a 3-month subscription to Xbox Game Pass. This bundle is priced at $399.99, and it’s also a limited-edition type of deal.

By comparison, the standard Meta Quest 3 with 128GB retails for $299.99, and a regular Xbox controller runs about $60 or less. So purely from a value perspective, the bundle may not seem like a steal. But if you’re a hardcore Xbox fan or someone who just really loves themed gear, this might be the kind of collector’s piece you’ll want to jump on.

What makes this even more appealing is the cloud gaming support on the Meta Quest 3S and Quest 3. You can stream Xbox Series X|S games directly to the headset without needing a console, TV, or monitor. It’s a fully wireless, portable gaming setup that’s perfect for couch play, travel, or when the big screen is in use.

I actually gave this setup a shot when it first rolled out back in September 2023, and I was surprised at how well it worked. The image quality held up nicely, and games that benefit from added immersion, like racing, first-person shooters, or RPGs, feel even better in a VR environment, even if the games themselves aren’t native VR titles.

So while this might not be the most budget-friendly way to get into cloud gaming or VR, it’s one of the most convenient and definitely one of the coolest if you bleed Xbox green. It’s also an interesting move since Microsoft/Xbox has stated it would never get into Virtual Reality, but it never said anything about teaming up with a company that has a handle on VR.
