It was reported by Windows Central that World of Warcraft will be coming to consoles with Microsoft’s next-gen Xbox. The next Xbox will be capable of running Battle.net, which players will use to access World of Warcraft.
For the longest time, WoWHead has datamined controller support for World of Warcraft, but nothing official for controller support was ever announced. Recently, they added a 1-button assist that cycled through a class’ rotation when you kept pressing the button. In addition, classes are being completely overhauled for their upcoming expansion, Midnight, in a way that they are being overly simplified. Also, Blizzard is removing combat add-on support in Midnight, which now makes better sense.
All of these signs point to a game being modified to run on consoles, and with this latest report, it is now confirmed that you can play WoW on the next-gen Xbox. As of now, there is no release date for Microsoft’s next Xbox, nor has it been stated that World of Warcraft would be available at launch.
Through datamining, however, it is rumored that World of Warcraft: Midnight may launch on March 10, 2026. This was supported by the fact that Legion Remix ends on January 19, and a 6-week event, set to end on March 9, 2026, was found in the game files, most likely being the pre-patch event for the next expansion. It should be noted that nothing has been confirmed with a March 10 release date, so take that rumored date as just that… a rumor backed by datamining.
In addition to World of Warcraft, Windows Central announced that PlayStation PC titles like God of War, Ghost of Tsushima, and Spider-Man will be playable on the next-gen Xbox.
This is being touted as an “install any game that runs on Windows” feature.
