WiZmans World Re;Try Review

By Scott AdamsFebruary 19, 2026
Video game review template for WiZmans World Re;Try

WiZmans World was a game made on the Nintendo DS over a decade ago. It never made its way to the West. Now with the release of WiZmans World Re;Try it is finally in the West in the form of a Remaster.

Game Name: WiZmans World Re;Try
Platform(s): PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, PC
Reviewed On: Nintendo Switch
Genre: RPG
Developer(s): City Connection
Publisher(s): Clear River Games

Release Date: February 19th, 2026
Price: $24.99

Claus was a child found outside Wizarest in a dungeon by his mentor, Giselle. Years have gone by, and now he is ready to become a proper mage adventurer. They do dungeoneering as they try to find a way to leave Wizarest. Wizarest is a city isolated from the world after the collapse, and all the memories outside of the city of Wizarest have been removed from all citizens. The hope is that they can find their memories somewhere outside the dungeons if they can escape from their isolation.

The Good

A big aspect of the gameplay is the homunculi that join Claus to do his dungeon explorations. They act as your party members. You can fuse them with the souls of enemies you grab after defeating them. This transforms them to look different as well as changes the skills that they have.

WiZmans World Re;Try does a good job with the backgrounds in the remaster. You can still see some crunchiness in the sprites for characters. The backgrounds and the character art have been upscaled or redrawn, and it looks solid. The menus and text during gameplay are also upscaled or redrawn, and it is very clear and readable.

Combat is turn-based. You can see enemies as you traverse these dungeons. If you touch them from behind, you can start with a preemptive attack, letting you have all your party members get an attack in before the turn order actually starts. If they touch you from behind, then they get an ambush attack where the enemies all get a turn to attack before the turn order starts.

The turn order is based on the speed stat of the characters participating. You can see the turn order at the top of the screen in battle. You can use that to your advantage by attacking the enemies coming next in the turn order, which is recommended. There is one big thing that helps you dish out massive damage, and that is chain attacks. Chain attacks continue as you attack with your party members one after another without interruption. As your chain attack level continues, the damage your units cause increases. This makes a good incentive for speed buffs or speed debuffs, so that the enemy forces will interrupt you less.

The Bad

Some aspects of WiZmans World Re;Try did not age the best. There is no voice acting, and a lot of text you will have to read. I also enjoyed the pixel sprites on handheld with the Nintendo Switch, but once you put it on the big screen, the sprites can look pretty crunchy. It is also strange to see when the sprites don’t look as good as the background or the character art.

In the dungeons, you will need to find specific crystals to activate the fast-travel locations. This can be quite annoying, as it might be in a different room in the dungeon you haven’t explored yet. You can find the pillar for fast travel before you have the crystal needed to activate it. These pillars, just like in other RPGs, indicate big boss encounters or areas you need to be prepared for.

The Verdict

WiZmans World Re;Try is a solid time. I am glad it is finally out of Japan for the first time. There is a lot of customization for your characters, and a lot of depth, especially given that there are only four main elements to worry about. If you are fine without having voice acting and the longer dungeon designs, then this is definitely a recommended title.

WiZmans World Re;Try is available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
