Why isn't there a worth while gaming controller for tablets?

By Keith MitchellJanuary 16, 2013

I’m one of the few people that prefer gaming on a tablet (Android to be specific) on the go, I’m serious. Sure I may not have the backlog of AAA titles to keep me company but there’s just something about gaming on a platform that gives me the best of all worlds at once; Gaming, Connectivity, Productivity and Entertainment (video / music). Though I’ll admit that this title of gaming isn’t for everyone for one specific reason, the lack of tactile control.

Sure while you can connect a Bluetooth controller to an Android tablet, it isn’t the same thing. It’s cumbersome if you’re moving or standing and honestly it makes you look like any idiot. There’s several decent attempts to recreate the handheld experience if you’re using a smartphone, namely; the Gameklip, the MOGA, and the upcoming PhoneJoy, there isn’t any available for tablets.

For the sake of argument I’m referring to the 7 inch tablet persuasion as I think that’s the perfect combination, where a 10 inch tablet on a handheld controller would look … bizarre and that’s putting it nicely. Have you seen people using 10 inch tablets as cameras? Yeah, it would be just like that.

So I constantly find myself wondering why there hasn’t been a controller out for many of the 7 inch tablets, especially the love child of Asus and Google; The Nexus 7. It’s the perfect size, it’s light, it supports Bluetooth right out the box and well it’s the best Android based tablet out there in it’s size.  Let me come right out with it and say that why hasn’t someone copied the idea of the Wikipad or the Razer Edge Pro? A simple controller scheme with a drop in cradle, it would be perfect!

Just imagine how much better gaming on a tablet would be as all gaming; Platforming, RTS’s, FPS’s or just about all of them would be so much enjoyable. Suppose until then myself as well as all the other gamer’s in the same situation will simply have to manage with what we have until someone decides that this is a worth while venture.

Someone, get on this… please!
