WEBTOON Announces Anime Adaptation of Webcomic ELECEED

By Josh PiedraJune 30, 2025

WEBTOON Entertainment’s LINE Digital Frontier, operator of the company’s Japanese LINE MANGA and ebookjapan services, is announcing an anime adaptation of the hit WEBTOON webcomic Eleceed by Oscar-nominated production company DandeLion Animation Studio. With over 1.4 billion global views on WEBTOON and published in 10 languages, Eleceed is one of WEBTOON’s top action titles worldwide.

ELECEED

Created by Jeho Son and ZHENA, and currently serialized on WEBTOON, Eleceed follows the story of Jiwoo Seo, a kind-hearted boy with hidden powers, and Kayden, a solitary and extremely powerful Awakened being who, after being gravely injured, takes refuge in the form of a stray cat. After Jiwoo rescues him, the two form an unlikely bond and face powerful enemies and deep-rooted conspiracies together—growing stronger with each challenge.

“Eleceed delivers the perfect blend of high-speed action and a tightly woven storyline,” said Sinbae Kim, Chief Growth Officer at LINE Digital Frontier. “The upcoming anime adaptation is a chance to introduce this dynamic series to a broader global audience, and we believe it marks an exciting new chapter in our global storytelling journey.”

“It feels like a dream to finally share the news that Eleceed is getting an anime adaptation!” said creator Jeho Son. “This is all thanks to our incredible readers who have loved and supported the series. I hope the anime allows even more people to enjoy the world of Eleceed!”

DandeLion Animation Studio is one of Japan’s premier animation production companies and is known for their Oscar-nominated short film Magic Candies and animated film The First Slam Dunk. Hiroshi Nishikiori (IDOLiSH7 Movie, Honey Lemon Soda) will direct the Eleceed anime adaptation, with series composition and script by Yousuke Kuroda (My Hero Academia), and character design by Minami Sakura (Gridman Universe).

To commemorate the anime adaptation announcement, Kazuhiro Nishikawa, President of DandeLion Animation Studio, will appear at Anime Expo in Los Angeles on July 6 to share behind-the-scenes insights into the production of the Eleceed anime. In addition, an exclusive video celebrating the adaptation will be available for fans to view at the WEBTOON booth on the Anime Expo show floor throughout the convention.

Eleceed joins WEBTOON Entertainment’s growing slate of anime adaptations based on some of the world’s most popular webcomics. The company is developing 20 anime titles in 2025, including a highly anticipated anime of WEBTOON’s Omniscient Reader with Aniplex and Crunchyroll and a recently-announced Teenage Mercenary adaptation.

Recent WEBTOON anime adaptations include Viral Hit, Tower of God Season 2, True Beauty, and Senpai Is an Otokonoko on Crunchyroll, among many others.
