Fighting game fans on Nintendo platforms are about to get something they have been missing for years. While the Nintendo Switch 2 has already seen a growing lineup of 2D fighters and arena brawlers, major competitive 3D fighting games have largely stayed away. That changes soon, as SEGA has officially announced that Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage will launch for Nintendo Switch 2 on March 26, 2026.

This is also a bit of history, as this release marks the first time at the Virtua Fighter series will had made a release on a Nintendo platform in all its 3D goodness. It’s been a very long time in the coming, that’s for sure.

Cross-Play and Rollback Netcode Confirmed

Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage is being positioned as the most complete version of Virtua Fighter 5 to date and will support full cross-play. This means that Nintendo Switch 2 players will be able to reach out and punch (or get punched) by players on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.

SEGA also confirmed the addition of rollback netcode, a key feature for modern fighting games that helps deliver smoother online matches with reduced input delay. This should make competitive play more consistent across all platforms.

New Moves, Balance Updates, and Training Improvements

Beyond online upgrades, World Stage introduces new moves and combos, along with balance adjustments aimed at refining the competitive meta. The training mode is also receiving important improvements, giving both newcomers and veterans more tools to practice, lab matchups, and improve their skills.

Nintendo Switch 2 Open Beta Starts February 18

Not satisfied with just letting us know that the game is on the way, SEGA is also hosting a Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage Open Beta Test, which begins on February 18, 2026. The beta will focus on testing network performance and cross-play stability across platforms. unfortunately, a Nintendo Switch Online subscription will be required to participate in the open beta test.

Pre-Order Bonuses and Editions

Pre-orders for Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage are now available in both digital and physical formats. Anyone who purchases a Nintendo Switch 2 edition will receive a bonus in-game customization item based on the classic SEGA Genesis console. This cosmetic item can be equipped by all 19 base characters.

  • Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage base game
  • Legendary Pack DLC
  • Yakuza Series Collaboration Pack DLC
  • 30th Anniversary Swimsuit Costume Set
  • Soundtrack Collection
  • Ranking Titles
  • Virtua Fighter Pre-Production Artwork

A Standard Digital Edition will also be available for $19.99 USD, with all DLC packs from the anniversary edition sold separately at launch.

A physical edition priced at $49.99 USD includes the same content as the 30th Anniversary Edition and comes with a double-sided poster. One side features the World Stage cover art, while the other showcases the original Virtua Fighter artwork.

With cross-play support, modern netcode, and decades of legacy behind it, Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage could become a major addition to the Nintendo Switch 2 fighting game library when it arrives this March. Let’s just cross our fingers that the Switch 2 will be able to handle all that great 3D fighting when it comes to the performance department. However, if it plays as good as it looks, then Switch 2 owners are in for a treat.
