The Whitest Kids U’Know MARS Coming to Select Theaters

The Whitest Kids U'Know Mars

MARS, the latest and final project by cult sketch comedy troupe The Whitest Kids U’Know, comes to theaters later this month. First, the feature film will kick off with a series of special screenings. Starting on February 20th in Los Angeles, the screening will feature a Q&A with the cast. The screening tour will then continue to seven other locations at select Alamo Drafthouse theaters.

In partnership with Synergetic Distribution, the theatrical screenings will be followed by a wider theatrical release on March 13th. As for the early screenings, cast members Zach Cregger, Sam Brown, Timmy Williams, Darren Trumeter, and director Sevan Najarian will attend. You can find the screenings and audience Q&As with the creatives in the following cities:

  • Los Angeles, CA – February 20th
  • San Francisco, CA – February 21th
  • Mountain View, CA – February 22th
  • Denver, CO – February 27th
  • Austin, TX – February 28th
  • Chicago, IL – March 6th
  • Brooklyn, NY – March 7th
  • Manhattan, NY – March 8th

MARS tells the story of Kyle, a dentist who enters a contest to go to Mars on a whim. When he wins, he decides to go, ditching his own wedding. But when he goes he finds it’s a sham. Scammed by a billionaire, Kyle finds himself stuck on Mars with wacky crewmates and no way home. Check out the latest trailer below.

MARS previously debuted last year at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York. And the film isn’t the first feature from The Whitest Kids U’Know. The troupe previously made The Civil War on Drugs in 2011. Following that, they started working on MARS the next year. In development for a while, it finally came to fruition thanks to crowdfunding efforts.

“After over a decade of work, we couldn’t be more excited about finally releasing “Whitest Kids U’ Know’s Mars,” says troupe member Sam Brown. “As the last project we will ever create with our beloved friend and leader, Trevor Moore, this is more than a movie to us. That being said it is still very dumb and very fun.”

Sadly, Trevor Moore passed away in 2021. MARS marks the final performance of the sketch comedian, who appeared in many of the most notable sketches of The Whitest Kids U’Know. Some highlights include a beleaguered John Wilkes Booth and a questionable mascot for grape juice.

The Whitest Kids U’Know formed at the School of Visual Arts in New York City and went on to a five-season run on IFC. Since then, troupe member Zach Cregger has branched into horror. Cregger recently directed the acclaimed Weapons after arriving on the scene with hit film Barbarian. Next up, Cregger will direct a Resident Evil film set for this fall.

But first, check out the troupe’s work on MARS. After the select screenings, the animated comedy will receive a wider theatrical release on March 13th. And if you can’t make it to those, MediaOCD will debut a Blu-ray home media release on March 10th. This version will include over 9 hours of extras. The film will also be available in North American through Darkroom.

But if you want to see the film early and get to ask questions of a beloved sketch comedy group, you may get tickets through Alamo Drafthouse here. But be quick, they’re blasting off fast.
