The Nintendo Switch 2 Will Allow USB Mouses To Be Used

Don't like the built-in mouse? Use your own!
By Todd BlackMay 23, 2025
Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch Online

One of the key design elements that the Nintendo Switch 2 was built with was versatility. Nintendo clearly wanted players to not only have the options the original Switch had, but amplify them even further. We see this through the GameChat feature, being able to plug in a webcam so that players can see one another, and through the advancements in the Joy-Cons themselves. The Joy-Cons still act as standard handheld controllers, but now, you can flip them on their side and turn them into mouse controllers. However, we’ve now learned of an extra “option’ for those who don’t want to use the Joy-Cons that way.

In a special gameplay video for Nobunaga’s Ambition Awakening Complete Edition from Koei Tecmo, they revealed that you can actually plug in a regular USB mouse and it’ll work on the Nintendo Switch 2. Producer Michi Ryu noted during the video:

“Once you connect the USB mouse, a message will appear in the top left indicating that the mouse is connected. When the USB mouse is connected, it takes priority over the Joy-Con 2.”

That is indeed pretty cool. While we can’t say that every Switch 2 game will allow this, it does seem like something that would transfer to other titles.
