If this sounds familiar, don’t panic, I did just write a piece about how well the Nintendo Switch 2 did in Japan in its first month, and now, I get to tell you how it did in the United States. Hint: It did really well and broke a record. That seems to be a theme with this console, wouldn’t you say? The number reveal comes from Mat Piscatella, who manages the NPD data that helps show how games and consoles do in the US each month. Sure enough, he broke down the Switch 2 numbers for its first month in the country, and…
Hardware – Nintendo Switch 2 sold 1.6M units in June, the highest launch month unit sales for video game hardware in US history. The previous high was the 1.1M units of PlayStation 4 sold during November 2013.

As if that’s not enough, it broke a different record via how much people spent on the system (and others) in the month of June:
Hardware – June hardware spending increased by 249% when compared to a year ago, to $978M. This is a record high for hardware spending in a June month, surpassing the $608M reached in June 2008.

So, yeah, the Nintendo Switch 2 is doing incredibly well. Plus, if you recall the Japanese numbers, it sold 1.5 million (at bare minimum) in its opening month there. That’s 3.1 million just between two nations, AND, we know from official Nintendo numbers that the company sold 3.5 million in its first four days. So, that means the overall sales number for the Switch 2 is definitely MUCH higher than 3.5 million right now.
How much higher? We’ll have to wait on Nintendo for that figure.
