While the last episode of the Nintendo Entertainment Podcast had me and my cohosts venting about people saying that “Nintendo hadn’t won the console wars,” or they had “won them only by default,” this week will be a much different story. Why? Because The Big N dropped its latest financial briefing today, and in it was all sorts of information that makes me happy, not the least of which is that, as of the end of September, the Nintendo Switch 2 has sold 10.36 million units! And yes, that’s a record-breaking number for just under four months of being on the market.
For context, by this point in time, the OG Switch had only sold 4.7 million, and the now second-place finisher was the PS5 with 7.5 million sold. Oh, and if you want to know the “breakdown” of how the 10.36 million is by region, here you go:
Switch 2 Hardware Sales By Region:
Americas – 3.68m
Europe – 2.40m
Japan – 2.35m

It’s fascinating that Europe has more sales than Japan right now, as that’s not been Nintendo’s biggest market over the years. However, Japan’s market has been sold out pretty much since launch, with each unit selling faster than they can restock! It’s also important to note once again that this financial data only goes until September 30th, which means that the October launch of Pokémon Legends: Z-A didn’t affect things. We know that the game sold incredibly well and moved a lot of units, so it’s fair to think that the Nintendo Switch 2 might be over 11 million right now.
As if all that wasn’t enough, Nintendo has now raised expectations of how much they think they’ll sell before March 2026, raising projections of Switch 2 sales to 19 million! In a chat with Bloomberg, Toyo Securities analyst Hideki Yasuda noted that these sales were incredible, and that Nintendo might have to “revise projections” once the holiday season hits:
“Selling over 10 million units in just the first half of the fiscal year was a major surprise that far exceeded market expectations. Since sales in the second half of the year — which includes the Christmas shopping season — almost never fall below those of the first half, there is a strong likelihood that Nintendo will revise upward again.”
So, yeah, the Nintendo Switch 2 is doing incredibly well, and with big games still coming down the pipeline, that’s not likely to stop anytime soon.
