The Legend of Zelda Movie Cast Its Two Main Stars

By Todd BlackJuly 16, 2025
The Legend of Zelda Movie

The fact that Nintendo is doing a The Legend of Zelda Movie in live-action is still somewhat mind-blowing to fans like me. After all, doing it in an animated form has been done before via certain Super Smash Bros. trailers, cutscenes within games like Link’s Awakening, and more. Yet, they’re going the live-action route, and that means that they MUST cast the right people to play the characters, especially Link and Zelda. Today, Shigeru Miyamoto himself took over Nintendo’s Twitter account to officially announce who is playing the two beloved characters:

This is Miyamoto. I am pleased to announce that for the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda, Zelda will be played by Bo Bragason-san, and Link by Benjamin Evan Ainsworth-san. I am very much looking forward to seeing both of them on the big screen. (1/2) pic.twitter.com/KA5XW3lwul

As you can see, both actors are young. By one account,  Benjamin is 16 and Bo is 21. The ages of both characters vary in the games, so it’s not the biggest issue. The question about The Legend of Zelda Movie is how both characters will be used, and how everything will look by the time the May 7th, 2027 release date arrives.

It’s likely to be a while before we see any glimpses of them in costumes or a trailer featuring them. Plus, we don’t know if Benjamin will actually talk as Link, so we’ll add that to the “list of mysteries” still to unravel. Still, this is a good first step…and at least they didn’t cast Chris Pratt…
