With the Nintendo Switch 2 now out, and games slowly starting to come out for it across 1st and 3rd party developers, many are wondering what games will be announced next. There are several titles that many people think are “destined to arrive,” but haven’t yet for one reason or another.
Tekken 8 is one such title, as Nintendo and Bandai Namco have a great relationship, even working together to make Smash Bros. Yet, the newest game in the fighting franchise hasn’t been labeled as coming to the Switch 2, and many fans are wondering why.
In an interview with Eurogamer, director Katsuhiro Harada gave the following cryptic answer to the port question:
“It’s an interesting option, and not totally off the table. But it would require a lot of work on the game to get it running on that hardware. From a business standpoint, [the Switch 2] is doing quite well, so it would be a very good business decision if you’re trying to get a bigger audience. But the amount of work that would have to be done on the game makes it not a very easy decision. At this point in time, there are no… (laughs) There is nothing to announce.”
That laugh at the end feels like a giveaway, but we might be reading into it too much. As many will note, the Nintendo Switch 2 already has high-end graphical games on it, while also having fighting games like Street Fighter 6.
Ultimately, the choice is up to Bandai Namco, but it could also be the question of how many people would buy Tekken 8 on Switch 2 should it arrive. And if it does, this would make it the fourth time that the series would be playable on a Nintendo System, outside of Tekken Advance on the Game Boy Advance, Tekken Tag Tournament 2 on the Wii U, and Tekken 3D on the 3DS.
