One of the more surprising elements of the Nintendo Direct last week was when The Big N not only announced the Super Mario Galaxy movie that will drop next year, but also revealed that the two Wii titles would get remastered for the Nintendo Switch 2.
We got a small trailer for the ports in the Direct, but today, Nintendo dropped a 5-minute sequence depicting the beginning of the first game, and you’ll see just how much of a visual facelift the title has gotten. Check it out below:

As if that’s not enough, Nintendo’s Japanese site confirms that the Super Mario Galaxy ports will allow you to control the games in mouse mode! That will likely help it feel more like the original Wii games, which had you pointing at the screen like you were using a mouse arrow to get things like star pieces.
Super Mario Galaxy 1 and Super Mario Galaxy 2 will be released for the Switch and Switch 2, but will be enhanced versions and not just simple ports. When playing either game on the Switch 2, the games will be upscaled to 4K, as long as you play them docked. Super Mario Galaxy 2 will also feature Rosalina’s Storybook, which was only available in Super Mario Galaxy, and the storybook will feature several new pages full of new content.
Lastly, Nintendo has two new amiibos for the release of the games; Mario and Rosalina from the Super Mario Galaxy series. These will be released on April 2nd, 2026, which will coincide with the release of the Super Mario Galaxy movie.
The Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 remakes will be released on October 2, 2025.
