Today’s Nintendo direct was packed full of big surprises and reveals, and aside from our recap, we’ve been breaking down some of the bigger reveals for you to get more specific information on. For example, the first 20 minutes of the Direct were dedicated to the 40th anniversary of the Super Mario Bros franchise, and in the midst of that, they revealed that the next animated film starring the Mushroom Kingdom crew would be a Super Mario Galaxy Movie. Below, you’ll see the teaser for the film, and the release window for it, and it’s sooner than you might think!
Yeah, it’s coming out next April! You know, so long as a delay doesn’t happen like it did with the first film. Plus, the main voice cast from the first movie were confirmed to be coming back (still not happy about Chris Pratt as Mario…), so that will bring some serious continuity to things. You honestly have to wonder if the Super Mario Galaxy Movie was the plan from the start, as the first film had a Luma make a cameo. Albeit an insane Luma, but who are we to judge?
While Rosalina wasn’t officially confirmed for the film, it’s very likely she’ll be there, as the games were just as much about her as Mario. Plus, Illumination head Chris Meledandri teased how they’ll take reference from the two games, while also using lore and characters from others in the franchise.
To get fans hyped for the film even more, the two Mario Galaxy titles are coming to Switch/Switch 2 in October! Oh, and we’re getting special Amiibo for them, too!
nintendo said that this is the “main event” for the 40th anniversary, and they’re likely hoping for another billion-dollar film.
