The King has returned to the battlefield—well, almost. Capcom has officially dropped a brand-new trailer announcing Sagat’s long-awaited return to Street Fighter VI, arriving August 5th. Kicking off Year 3 of the Fighter Pass, the former Shadaloo enforcer is back with a vengeance, and the rage of the Tiger has never looked so fierce.
Since his defeat at the hands of Ryu years ago, Sagat has undergone serious growth, both as a fighter and a character. Now, his refined but brutal style roars back to the spotlight with a gameplay trailer that showcases just how dominant the Muay Thai legend still is. Between Sagat this summer, Tekken’s Fahkumram, and Fatal Fury’s Joe Higashi coming this fall, 2025 is shaping up to be a fantastic year for Muay Thai fans across the FGC.
Sagat’s New Stage – A Nod to His Roots
Sagat’s new stage, Proud Spire, seems like a spiritual callback to his original Street Fighter background. Set against a towering backdrop, surrounded by fans and, of course, a watchful tiger, Capcom clearly wants to remind everyone who the true king of the ring is. The environment feels like a homecoming—fierce, dignified, and majestic.
Breaking Down Sagat’s Kit in SFVI
Sagat’s gameplay in Street Fighter VI looks just as heavy-hitting and calculated as fans remember—now with some fresh upgrades. His signature Tiger Uppercut now comes with a wall-bouncing knee follow-up, giving him even more combo potential. His Level 1 Super, Tiger Cannon, can overpower Ryu’s Shinkuu Hadouken with additional hits, making it an intimidating projectile tool. Returning from Street Fighter IV, his HK Roundhouse once again acts as a powerful anti-air and juggle extender.
A new knee special gives Sagat added forward momentum, with optional follow-up inputs to maintain pressure. His Level 2 Super introduces branching paths—after a barrage of knees, he can either finish the opponent with an elbow slam or launch them for extended combos, such as following up with an EX Tiger Shot. Meanwhile, his Level 3 Critical Art is a devastating close-range mid that sets up a brutal finish if landed clean.
The Year 3 Lineup Is Stacked
Sagat won’t be coming alone, as Street Fighter VI Year 3 will also introduce Alex from Street Fighter III, C. Viper from Street Fighter IV, and Ingrid, who is finally making her first canon appearance in a mainline Street Fighter title since Capcom Fighting Evolution. For longtime fans, Sagat’s Street Fighter II shorts will also be available as his second outfit.
Street Fighter VI is available now on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam.
